Nigeria's rainy season is hard on anything outdoors. A little attention keeps your awning looking good and working smoothly.
Before the rains start
- Check the fixings. Look for loose brackets, rust spots or cracks in the wall around them. If anything moves, call us before the first storm.
- Clear the gutters. Blocked gutters can overflow straight onto the awning.
- Brush off dust and leaves. Debris holds water against the fabric and can stain it.
During the season
Retract in storms. Retractable awnings are made for sun and light rain. Close them when heavy rain or strong wind is forecast, and never leave them open overnight in stormy weather.
Let it dry before closing. If you have to close a retractable awning while it's wet, open it again to dry as soon as the weather clears. Fabric that stays rolled up wet can develop mildew.
Watch for pooling. Water collecting on the fabric means the pitch needs adjusting. Ask us to check it.
After the rains
Give the fabric a gentle clean, check the frame for rust, and run a retractable awning in and out a few times to make sure it moves smoothly.
